It's a Child's Life promotes a trusted, nurturing environment that allows families to express their feelings and be themselves to achieve the following objectives:
- Assess the physical, social and emotional responses of the child and their family.
- Promote effective therapeutic interventions to provide support prior to, during, and subsequent to life events.
- Create development opportunities to improve familiarity, normalcy, self-esteem, self-expression and independence.
- Reduce stress and anxiety for both the child and family.
- Advocate for the psychosocial needs of children and families with health care professionals, legal services, community agencies, etc.
Services Designed to Empower Children & Families
Our Certified Child Life Specialist will suggest a variety of specialized services, which may include therapeutic play, developing family-friendly education programs and support groups.
It's a Child's Life will actively work with you to develop a customized coping plan to help you manage your life events and/or medical journey, including, but not limited to:
- Coping with chronic or life limiting/threatening illness
- Preparing for death of a family member
- In need of death, dying and bereavement support
- Impact of injury/illness on development and/or on siblings
- Past negative health care experiences
- Fear of medical or dental procedures
- School re-entry (following a diagnosis)
- Stress and anxiety
